3 John

This epistle is addressed to a believer named Gaius. Gaius was a convert of Paul’s, and he lived in Corinth. (See 1 Corinthians 1:14 and Romans 16:23.) At the time that this letter was written, Gaius hosted a church in his home. A tradition says that he later became John’s scribe.

He was obviously highly-regarded and cherished by John, as John calls him "Beloved" (or "Friend," depending on translation) four times in his letter. (See 3 John 1:1,2,5, and 11.)
