Genesis
Lesson 7Genesis 1:27 through 2:6
This lesson in our Genesis study will be an extension of our last lesson in that it further examines the creation of animals and man.
A key biblical truth that we will observe is that mankind was created with a purpose; and that we were created to work and to "reign" and "have dominion". So, while we were created for fellowship with God, He created us as well for activity, for working, for doing things with a purpose, and not simply to stand at the throne and have God do everything for us. We were created to care for ourselves, to have responsibility, to raise a family, and to be responsible for the care and management of God’s created earth and all that dwells within.
Read Genesis 1:26-2:6 and consider the following:
- What does Genesis 1:26-27 have in common with the following scriptures?
- Matthew 11:27
- John 8:42
- John 17:24
- Psalm 2:7
- Psalm 45:7
- Psalm 110:1
- What happened before the world began according to the following verses?
- 1 Peter 1:19-20
- 2 Timothy 1:9
- Revelation 17:8
- Revelation 20:11-15
- Compare the creation of the animals with the creation of man. Note all of the similarities found by comparing Gen 1:24, Gen. 2:7, and Gen. 7:21-23.
- Name the things man was to have dominion over.
- In verse Genesis 1:30, what food does it say God provided for every beast of the earth, every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creeps upon the earth?
- What food did God provide for man to eat?
- What was the main source of water for all the growing things, like trees and plants? Was it rainwater? (see Genesis 2:5-6)
- How does the Bible describe today’s hydrological cycle, in contrast to the one described for God’s original creation in Genesis 2:5-6?
- Ecclesiastes 1:6-7
- Isaiah 55:10-11
- Job 28:24-26
- Psalm 135:6-7
God continues to demonstrate his unknowable power and wisdom as He creates more life on the earth; including man which He creates from out of the ground by simply speaking, and it is so. The environment he created is perfectly matched to all of the living creatures and beings that he created to inhabit it; and, next, he will turn it over to mankind to manage and care for.
In Christ,
