Bible

"You may already be familiar with some Bible history, but I’ll bet that there are at least a couple facts below that you didn’t know before!"

The Bible is God’s word for all God’s people and God worked through men to get it into the hands of all His people.

Original translation was for the Hierarchy only. The "High-ups" in the church read the word and passed on to the common folk what they thought they should know. One of the things Martin Luther fought for was the right of the "common folk" to have access to the word of God. Over the years God moved among men to accomplish His purpose.

The Old Testament was translated into Greek in Alexandria, Egypt about 270 BC. The "Vulgate" King James version was first published in 1611 AD. "Vulgate", loosely translated, means common. It was written in the common language so everyone who could read had access to it.

The whole Bible, divided into chapters and verses, first appeared in 1560 AD. lt was known as the "Geneva Bible" because it was prepared by the Reformers of Geneva. lt was also called the "Breeches Bible" because it translated Genesis 3:7 as "They sewed fig leaves and made themselves breeches."

The word "and" appears 45,277 times, while the term "Reverend" is found only once. You will find also that the word "Easter" is found only once. Mostly it translates the word to "Passover".

Martin Luther said "You cannot stop birds from flying around your head, but you can prevent them from building a nest there." Same for Sin.

Billy Sunday was an early 20th Century evangelist, who at one time was the "Sinner of Sinners." Then became a famous preacher. After his conversion, he said "The Bible will always be full of things you don’t understand, as long as you don’t live according to the things you do understand." He also said "When Christianity comes in the front door, laughter and mirth don’t have to go out the back."

ls the Bible up to date'? Sure, it talks of baseball; remember, it says "In the Big Inning." Also the Apostle Paul was able to travel extensively, because he had a "Barna Bus"!
